15 skincare tips that completely transformed my skin
My skincare journey has been a rollercoaster, but I am glad to say I’m currently at a stage where I’m happy with my skin. It took a lot of trial and error and, of course, patience, but in the end, it paid off. In this post, I’m going to share some skincare tips that completely transformed my skin. Try a few of them and see how good your skin gets. Let’s get into it.

- Less is more: When building a skincare routine, try to keep it as simple as possible. For your morning routine, all you need is a good cleanser, a toner, a serum, a moisturizer, and sunscreen. For your night routine, you need an oil cleanser, a water-based cleanser, a toner, and a moisturizer. This is enough for starters and will prevent you from destroying your skin barrier.
- Start double cleansing: I never used to double cleanse but when I started, I noticed a huge improvement in my skin. Double cleansing is a two-step method to thoroughly clean your face. First, you use an oil-based cleanser to break down makeup, sunscreen, and excess oil. Then, you follow with a water-based cleanser to remove any leftover residue, dirt, and sweat. Here are some great cleaning oils and cleansing balms I highly recommend.
- Always use sunscreen: This should be a non-negotiable. Use sunscreen daily and one that is at least SPF 30 (I use SPF50). My hyperpigmentation faded so much faster when I started using sunscreen religiously and my skin looks so much better overall. Korean sunscreens are the best because they are affordable, very effective, and don’t irritate the eyes.
- If you want to grow your lashes and eyebrows, apply castor oil on them.
- Try Slugging, especially during colder months: Slugging is a skincare method where you apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly or a similar occlusive product as the final step in your nighttime routine. It locks in moisture, prevents water loss, and helps repair the skin barrier, leaving your skin soft and hydrated by morning.
- Drink a lot of water: as cliche as it sounds, staying hydrated helps your skin.
- Fix your diet: My skin massively improved when I started consuming less greasy fast foods and more fruits and veggies. I recently learned about ginger shots and started making them at home and taking them daily on an empty stomach and I swear I look and feel much better. Do give it a try if you haven’t.
- Use glycolic acid to get rid of dark areas of your body: Glycolic acid is worth the hype and if you want to know about all the different ways you can use it, read this post.
- Switch to silk/satin pillowcase: you can easily get this from Amazon. They are more sanitary and better for your skin.
- Never go to bed without washing your face: It doesn’t matter if you wear makeup or not, always wash your face before going to sleep. Don’t forget to moisturize afterward.
- Visit a dermatologist: sometimes we feel like we don’t need to see a specialist because of the ton of advice we get for free online but a dermatologist should not be underrated. If you have any serious skin conditions like acne, seeing a dermatologist will save you a lot in the long run and will help you heal your skin faster.
- Don’t forget your neck: when you’re applying skincare, always extend your products to your neck down to your chest area. Don’t let your neck age before your face.
- Don’t follow trends blindly: there are so many skincare products being rolled out daily and these get pushed out on social media platforms, creating FOMO. Don’t get new products just because they are trending. Get the products that you need.
- Always patch test new products: Patch testing is a way to check if a skincare product will irritate your skin or cause an allergic reaction. You apply a small amount of the product to a discreet area, like behind your ear or on your inner arm, and wait 24-48 hours to see if there’s any redness, itching, or irritation. It’s a simple step to avoid skin reactions before using a product on your face.
- Be patient and consistent: Skincare is not a one-time thing. To see results, you have to be consistent and be patient. You might not see results right away but with time, you will start to notice a difference. Just don’t give up yet!
