Korean skincare has become extremely popular in the beauty world, and it’s easy to see why. It focuses on keeping your skin healthy and youthful by preventing issues and keeping it hydrated. As a teenager, starting a skincare routine early can really help improve your skin’s health and appearance. I personally wished I got into skincare as early as possible but unfortunately, I didn’t till I was about 19 years old. If you’re about 14-16 years old, now Is the perfect time to start to avoid getting severe skin concerns in the future such as hyperpigmentation and acne.
In this post, I will be curating a very simple yet effective skincare routine for teenagers who are just getting started with skincare and Korean products. I also know that you’re probably low on cash so I made it as affordable as possible so that you don’t have to break the bank. let’s get into it

Korean skincare for teenagers: What’s your skin type?
It’s very important first to figure out what your skin type is so that you can use products most suitable for you. If you use products that are not meant for your skin type, you probably won’t get the results you want.
There are four common skin types, and here’s how to recognize yours:
- Oily Skin: If your face looks shiny, especially in the T-zone, you likely have oily skin with larger pores and potential acne.
- Dry Skin: If your skin feels tight, rough, or flaky, it’s dry, often lacking moisture and appearing dull.
- Combination Skin: Some areas can be oily (T-zone), while others feel dry (cheeks), creating a combination skin type.
- Sensitive Skin: Sensitive skin reacts to irritants with redness, itching, or discomfort.
To identify your type, observe your skin’s natural state, use blotting paper to check for oiliness, and pay attention to how it feels over time. Knowing your skin type helps you choose the right skincare products and routine.
Try this test out and comment down below what your skin type is. Mine is combination skin!
Korean skincare for teenagers
when it comes to skincare, trust me when I tell you you don’t need a 12-step skincare routine. All you need as a beginner and teenager are
- Cleanser
- Serum
- Moisturizer and
- Sunscreens (daytime only)
All the other products such as toners, sheet masks, clay masks, etc. are not necessary but are also nice to have. Since we are trying to spend less and create an effective skincare routine, we are going to only need 4 products.
Cleanser
Cleansers are a fundamental part of any skincare routine, and they play a crucial role in maintaining clean and healthy skin. Cleansers are skincare products specifically designed to remove dirt, impurities, excess oil, makeup, and pollutants from your skin. They help cleanse your face and prepare it for the application of other skincare products.
There are about 4 types of cleansers depending on your skin type :
- Foaming Cleansers: These cleansers create a foamy lather when mixed with water. They are excellent for removing dirt and excess oil and are suitable for most skin types.
- Cream Cleansers: Creamy cleansers have a thicker, lotion-like texture. They are more hydrating and work well for dry or sensitive skin.
- Gel Cleansers: Gel cleansers have a clear, jelly-like consistency. They are effective at removing oil and can be suitable for oily or combination skin.
- Oil Cleansers: Oil cleansers also known as cleansing oils use the “like attracts like” principle to dissolve oil-based impurities, including makeup and sunscreen. They are usually the first step in a double-cleansing routine.
- Micellar Water: Micellar water is a gentle cleansing option that doesn’t require rinsing. It consists of micelles (tiny oil molecules) suspended in water and is excellent for quick makeup removal.

Serum
Serums are lightweight skincare products that are highly concentrated with active ingredients. They are designed to target specific skin concerns and are a valuable addition to your skincare routine.
When purchasing a serum, it’s important to have an end goal in mind. What are you trying to achieve? Do you want to brighten up your skin? Reduce your pore size or Hydrate your skin? Acne control?

Moisturizer
I see a lot of people skipping moisturizer in their skincare routine especially if they have oily skin and that is wrong. Not using a moisturizer if you have oily skin will just result in your skin producing more oils.
Moisturizers are essential in skincare, primarily providing hydration and strengthening the skin’s protective barrier. They prevent dryness, flakiness, and dullness while safeguarding against external factors like pollution and UV rays. Moisturizers come in various forms and may contain beneficial ingredients.

Sunscreen
Sunscreen is so important and you should definitely invest in a good one to make sure you’re protected. Sunscreen is a vital part of skincare, offering protection against the sun’s harmful UV rays. It comes in various forms and should be applied generously, 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapplication every two hours, or more if swimming or sweating is essential. Choose a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30 and labeled as broad-spectrum. Sunscreen helps prevent sunburn and skin aging, and lowers the risk of skin cancer, making it a crucial addition to your skincare routine.
I started noticing that I was aging “backward” and my dark spots were disappearing quicker once I started applying my sunscreen regularly.

If you decide to go with a product that I recommended in each skincare step, you will be able to have a full, simple skincare routine for about $70.
