Have you ever thought of trying the ordinary skincare routine where everything you use is from the ordinary skincare brand? This is your chance to.
The ordinary skincare was a brand that really took off especially last year when everyone was raving about their products on TikTok.
Well, the ordinary skincare brand offers over 50 products that are formulated to showcase one specific ingredient and address skin concerns like hyperpigmentation and acne.
Another thing that made the brand gain popularity and stands out among its competitors is how good and effective the products are at such low retail prices. With just as little as $50, you can create a full AM and PM the ordinary skincare routine that will actually work for you. If you don’t have a lot of money to spend on skincare products, this ordinary skincare routine will be perfect for you.
I have oily/ combination skin and the majority of people do as well. If you still don’t know your skin type, I will recommend you read this post (it opens in a new tab so don’t worry) and take the test to find out your skin type. This ordinary skincare routine will be centered around people with oily combination skin so let’s get right into it.

The correct order of applying skincare products
Table of Contents
There are so many opinions out there on what you should come first and last when applying skincare products. I think one thing you should bear in mind is that water-based formulas come first, followed by anhydrous or oil-based formulas, and lastly cream-based or suspension-based formulas. Following this statement, the correct order for applying skincare products will be:
Morning routine:
Water-based serums
Emulsions
Creams/oils/balms and
And for evening/nighttime routine, it will be:
Double cleanse
Exfoliating toner or retinol
Water-based serums
Emulsions and
Creams/balms/oils
Now that we know the correct order on how to apply our skincare products, let’s get into the main deal.
The ordinary skincare routine for oily skin, combination skin, and acne-prone skin
Morning routine:
Squalane cleanser
This is a gentle cleanser that is perfect for daily cleansing and it removes makeup well.
Glycolic acid 7% toning solution
This glycolic acid toner resurfaces the skin, and its very gentle.
Hyaluronic acid 2% + B5
This is magic in a bottle. Hyaluronic acid is perfect for any skin type because it deeply penetrates into your skin. It makes the skin very plump and smooth while making it glow. Once you start using this, you will skip a lot of makeup days because of how good your skin will look. The B5 present really helps a lot with puffiness.
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
One of my favorites. This niacinamide serum really helps to regulate sebum production and supports the skin barrier. It also has anti-inflammatory properties. if you have oily or combination skin, you need to give this product a try. When I started using it, I was breaking out on my forehead and my cheeks but after a week, most of it was gone all hanks to this baby right here. The ordinary skincare routine won’t be complete without this.
Caffeine solution 5% + EGCC
We all don’t get enough sleep sometimes and it can really show on our faces. This caffeine solution serum instantly depuffs and smooths out any baggage you have. With prolonged use, it helps to get rid of dark circles together with this home remedy and hyperpigmentation.
Natural moisturizing factors + HA
This cheap moisturizer is amazing. It really helps a lot with dryness and with time, your skin will be very hydrated and smooth.
Mineral UV Filters SPF 30 with Antioxidants
you need to be using sunscreen and this is a broad spectrum SPF30 UVA/UVB protection that also contains antioxidants, hydration, and anti-irritant support. if you want more sunscreens options that are not from the ordinary brand and have up to SPF60, you need to read this post about the 20 best sunscreens for summer.
Evening routine:
Squalane cleanser
Buffet
The buffet is an excellent antioxidant peptide serum that works for any skin type. It helps to correct sun damages, increase collagen and decrease fine lines and wrinkles.
Caffeine solution 5% + EGCC
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
100% plant-derived squalane
Squalane is fantastic when it comes to hydration. If you want extremely plump skin, you need to incorporate this into your routine.
Weekly routine:
Salicylic acid 2% Masque
This is a great charcoal exfoliating face mask that removes dead skin cells and other impurities that clog pores. This should be used once or twice max after cleansing in the evening followed by some hydrating serum like the hyaluronic acid 2% + B5.
AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution
You have probably seen this product everywhere on social media when the ordinary skincare routine or products is talked about. The combination of AHA and BHA deeply exfoliates to clear up congestions, dead skin cells, and hyperpigmentation. Your skin will literally look brighter and smoother after one use. This should be used once a week after cleansing in the evening for not more than 10 minutes. Also, avoid using it the same day as the salicylic acid 2% masque.
