Being a college freshman came with a lot of experience. I was excited to start this new phase of my life yet I was worried about the future.
Although I managed to pack most of the dorm room essentials, I still missed a lot of things that would’ve made my college freshman year so much easier.
In this post, I will be sharing 15 things I regret not bringing to college during my freshman year. Hopefully, you will learn from my mistakes.

1. First aid kit with basic medicines
I can’t begin to tell you how having a first aid kit is very essential. This is one of those things I regret not bringing to college during my first year. You can never know when you will need a bandage or some ibuprofen to relieve pain. If you don’t have a first aid kit in your dorm room essentials, you better add one right now.
You can make your first aid kit with all the medicines and stuff you think you might need which was what I did or you can get those that have everything you need.
2. Extra charger
You need to have an extra charger. Your only charger can just pick a random day and spoil when you need it the most and you will be stranded begging someone to borrow theirs. Don’t make that mistake.
I currently have 3 chargers. One is always in my dorm room and never leaves, the second one is always in my backpack because it’s such a college backpack essential and the last one is a brand new one that I also keep in my dorm room in case anything happens to the other 2 chargers.
3. Scissors
scissors are soo important. I don’t like working with blades so I always prefer scissors. I use my scissors a lot of open packages, for cutting random things that need to be cut and so much more. Make sure you always have scissors, trust me.
4. Mini Fan
To date, one of my best college purchases is a mini rechargeable fan. The dorm rooms are hot! The last thing you want after a long sunny day is to come back to a hot dorm room with nothing to cool you down. Fans come in different shapes and sizes but I will always recommend you get the ones that are rechargeable, and small. Mine even comes with a built-in light and USB port which is so cool.
5. Mini vacuum
Your dorm room gets dirty and if you happen to have a rug in your room, a vacuum will make it so much easier to clean.
6. Brita
Bottled water is getting more expensive and college water may not be the safest to drink. Getting a Brita will make sure the water you drink is filtered and safe enough for drinking. Ever since I got a Brita, I was able to save $$$ on bottled water, which was great. Spend wisely.
7. Mini stapler
A mini stapler is one of the college backpack essentials I use almost every day. It helps me to keep my papers organized and a lot of professors expect you to have a stapler.
8. Stain remover
Just like we have good days, we also have bad days. A stain remover will always be there to save the day when you spill your coffee or juice.
9. Downy wrinkle spray
Let me be honest with you, you will not have the time to always iron. In fact, ironing will probably be the last thing on your mind. But on days when you feel like you need to look more presentable, a wrinkle spray can help. This was one of those things I regret not bringing to college but now, I make sure I always have my downy wrinkle spray.
10. Desk drawer organizers
I love mine so much. Such a great way to organize your pens, highlighters, sticky notes and so much more. I also use them in my other drawers to organize my underwear, my socks and so much more. They are so functional and you can use them in so many ways
11. Drying rack
This is one of the things I regret not bringing to college during my first year. Having a drying rack is so essential especially when your washing machine doesn’t come with a dryer. Ours didn’t so you had to go outside and hang your clothes on these ropes to dry and I wasn’t comfortable drying my clothes out there, especially my underwear. Save yourself the stress and get one of these. They come in different sizes And are very affordable.
12. Command hooks
This is such a dorm room essential. you need command hooks and you will use them a lot especially when drilling holes in the walls is prohibited. I use my command hooks to place my dorm decors, hold my indoor plants and hang my coats. They are amazing and come in different colors and sizes.
13. Electric kettle
If you love to drink tea or coffee, having an electric kettle is a must. You can use hot water for soo many things. Make ramen, sterilize your combs, and so much more.
14. Pepper spray
Prevention is better than cure. The world is not safe anymore and you should always be careful. Having pepper spray with you whenever you’re going out can save your life. This is one of those things I regret not bringing to college because anything could’ve happened to me. Please don’t make this mistake.
15. Portable charger
Please get one of these. A portable charger will allow you to charge your devices on the go. If you spend the entire day on campus, your batteries will probably run out. Having this portable charger will make charging your devices so much easier. Get one of these.
