The ordinary product guide: Top products for Hyperpigmentation
Table of Contents
The Ordinary Alpha Arbutin 2% + HA
This has to be among my favorites. Alpha Arbutin is a water-based serum that helps fades dark spots and pigmentation. It is a derivative of hydroquinone and treats pigmentation by inhibiting the formation of melanin.
One thing you need to keep in mind is you have to be patient and consistent to see the results you need. Depending on how bad your hyperpigmentation is, you need to use at least 2 bottles before it fades completely. It should be used in the morning and/or evening before oils or cream.
The Ordinary Azelaic acid suspension 10%
Azelaic acid is an amazing product that brightens and even out your skin. It is lightweight and should preferably be used at night after water-based serums.
The Ordinary Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate
This is a great vitamin C to use especially if you’re new to skincare. It brightens the skin, evens out your skin tone, and even get rid of any signs of aging. I love how it just brings back that glow to your skin. It can be used in the morning or evening after water-based products.
The ordinary products for Acne
The ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
This product is currently the brand’s best-seller. Seriously, your the ordinary skincare routine will be incomplete without this. Niacinamide is a water-based serum that regulates sebum, decongests, and minimizes your pores. The reason why there is zinc in there is to reduce the skins sebum activity so that your skin won’t get so oily during the day.
It also tackles fine lines and dullness for a more even and glowing skin. It can be used in the morning and/or at night before you apply your creams and oils.
Some people complain that it foams sometimes. If it happens to you, try using less product and pat it into the skin instead of rubbing. That should help.
The ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% peeling solution
Before I say anything about this product, let me explain what AHA and BHA mean and what they do.
AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acids, BHA stands for Beta Hydroxy Acid. AHAs exfoliate the top surface of the skin leaving it brighter and ultimately giving you a more even appearance, whilst BHA’s go deeper into the pores which are great for congestion and blocked pores. As this product targets the top surface and goes deeper into the pores it makes it a fantastic product for the exfoliation of the skin.
It fights blemishes, improves texture, and is good for congested skin. If you have sensitive skin, please stay away from this product and go for Azelaic acid. You should use it only once or twice a week for up to 10mins at night.
The ordinary AHA/BHA Peeling solution can increase your skin sensitivity to the sun Which is why it should be used at night only. Avoid the sun as much as possible and invest in a good sunscreen.

The ordinary skincare guide: Conclusion
I must say the ordinary is an amazing brand that I believe everyone should try out.I love them so much that i wrote a whole post about the ordinary skincare routine. Yes, this is a post about creating a whole routine using products from the ordinary only.
I know how overwhelming it can be when there are so many products to choose from. If you don’t want to get all of them at once, try these 2 first. For hyperpigmentation, I will recommend the Alpha Arbutin while for your acne, start with the Niacinamide.
