Do you want a perfect skin? Ofcourse you do!
You’re probably here because you still can’t figure out why your face doesn’t want to flawless and acne-free. You’ve tried so many products and have spent thousands on them but there is still no result.
The only reason why your face is still not perfect is that you’re still using those expired products.
I know this doesn’t get talked about as often as it should be because sometimes when you apply these products especially makeup, they still look just as good or maybe you don’t know that they have expiry date. It’s all possible.
Here are some horrifying reasons why you should consider throwing away those expired products.
Why you should throw away expired products
Table of Contents
1. All of the molecules in these products can break down into something else, and you can have a reaction to it which can lead to inflammation, rashes, acne, blisters, even swelling of the skin and cancer!
2. Expired products build up bacteria which can cause eye infections, swelling of the lips and other skin problems.
3.The products won’t work properly again so why continue to use them?
Your next question will probably be “how can I know when to get rid of my products?”
Well, that’s pretty easy. Each product out there has a production date and expiry date written either on the container itself or the packaging it comes in.
This product above has it clearly stated that the expiring date will be August 2021 so when the time comes, I know I have to throw it away, although I know it won’t even reach next year.
This second one here has a tiny cup with a number written in it that says “12M”. This means that the products are expected to expire 12M after the day I open it, that’s in a year. It’s that easy.
To make life even easier, I have summarized the estimated expiring time for the products we use the most.
2 to 3 months
These are the products with the shortest life span. In a year, you need to approximately replace them 3 times. This includes:
- Mascaras
- Face masks and peels
- Acne pads
- Nail file and loofah
6 months to 1 year
They last a bit longer but still need to be replaced at least twice a year. It includes:
- Liquid foundations
- concealers
- Liquid eyeliners
- Serums
- Face wash
- Eye creams
- Acne creams and wash
1 to 1.5 years
These are products that you need to buy only once every year unless you use them a lot and they finish earlier. It consists of:
- Sunscreens
- Cream eye-shadow
- Shower gels
- Lip gloss
- Face cream (the ones that come in jars)
- Bar soap
- Eyebrow gels
2 years
These products last for a long time because they don’t always finish on time. The list includes:
- Lipsticks
- Nail polish
- Scrubs(the ones in a jar)
- Powder eye-shadow and blush
- Powder foundations
- Body lotions(jar type)
- Lip and eye pencils
- Highlighters
- Bronzers
- Contour kits
- Some primers
3 years
They last the longest but we always finish them before 3 months. They are:
- Shampoos and conditioners
- Hair sprays
- Body lotions (the ones with a pump)
- Perfumed
I hope you’re all ready planning on having a cleaning spree. Check those products, throw away the ones that have expired and get your perfect skin.

I always make such an effort to clear my make up out and beauty products, I hate the thought of putting expired products on me. I have such sensitive skin!

Love this! Nothing is more gross then keeping skincare products for too long, and using them after digging them out the closet. It is not worth it; buy fresh ones or use the item before it expires!
A good reminder to keep our closets clean. 🙂
