Selfcare Sunday routine

Have you ever heard the saying:
If you don’t pick a day to relax, your body will pick it for you?
This simply means that if you don’t rest at the right time, then you will fall sick and be forced to rest.
Now trust me, you don’t want that.
Our bodies are not machines. In fact, it’s proven that we achieve more when we rest well. That’s why self-care is important.
What is selfcare and why it is important
Selfcare simply is an activity you do to maintain or improve yourself physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Some people think selfcare is selfish. It’s not.
Taking care of yourself is the key to living a balanced life. It’s not selfish because you are prioritizing your well-being. It’s actually helping everyone around you as well. When you’re very okay, the good energy you radiate can really affect people in a good way. You don’t know how your smile or cheerful voice can make a difference in someone’s day.
Why is selfcare important
I can give you countless reasons why selfcare is important but I will summarize my favorite reasons for you:
- It improves your health
- It enhances your relationship with others
- You perform better in your daily activities
- It allows you to get to know yourself better
- It helps to boost your confidence and self-esteem
- It reduces stress and anxiety
As you can see, selfcare is important and I think every single person should have a day dedicated to selfcare or even just an hour if you’re a very busy person.
So why Sunday? Selfcare can take place any day but Sundays are the most suitable because it’s right before a new week (Monday) and usually, our Saturdays are filled with chores and work. That’s why Sundays are for selfcare.
Selfcare Sunday ideas to add to your routine
Selfcare is a personal topic because we all have different things we tag as selfcare. The following ideas I am going to share with you should serve as an inspiration for your next selfcare Sunday.
If you’ve never had a self-care Sunday before, it’s totally fine. You’re here which means that you want to learn about selfcare and hopefully have your own selfcare routine. I’m so proud of you for taking the first step!
Now let me share some ideas with you.
Sleep for a few extra hours
Sleep till your body wakes up naturally. Don’t set an alarm that day. When was the last time we slept without setting an alarm? You can do that for just one day, every week. When you get enough sleep, you wake up feeling well-rested and happy. Your face looks bright and your dark circles seem to be less visible.
Stretch and exercise
Stretch out your legs and arms. Exercise is very important and that’s why I included it in my daily morning routine for school. You feel more energized when you workout and your body just feels good.
Binge-watch
If you have a movie you’ve been wanting to watch for so long, this is your chance to. Catch up with your favorite series on Netflix. It’s honestly allowed because we don’t get time to do so during the weekdays. This is such a great way to relax and forget that tomorrow is Monday.
Turn off your phone and laptop
You don’t want any notifications and emails coming in to stress you. Learn to be spending time away from technology. I actually tried spending 30 days without social media and it was the best thing ever! I will definitely do it again soon.
Give yourself a pedicure or a manicure
Your hands and feet deserve some love too. Cut your nails, and scrub the sole. If nail polish is your thing, go ahead and paint those nails in cute colors.
Read a book
If you have a book you’ve been wanting to read, do that today. You don’t have to read the whole thing. A few pages are more than enough. I am currently reading atomic habits by James clear and I have to say, it’s such a great book. It’s about how to build habits that will stick with you and why getting something small done each day is better than doing nothing at all. You should check it out.
Take care of your skin
Do you have a face mask you’ve been wanting to try? An eye patch perhaps? Do it. I love face masks and sheet masks. This is the day I also make sure I do my skincare routine completely. I am going to share an updated skincare routine because a lot has changed since my old skincare routine as a college student post.
You should also treat yourself to new skincare products. I have reviewed a great brand called good molecules because their products are so good and affordable. You should definitely check it out. Spoiler alert: all their products are under $20 !!
Detox and wash your hair
Oh, sometimes I feel bad for our scalp. We get so busy that we forget to treat our hair well. Wash your hair, detox your scalp using the Aztec clay powder or simply baking powder. Treat your hair using a hair mask. There are tons of options out there in the market but I prefer homemade hair masks. My hair is currently loving pure aloe Vera gel ( we have a whole garden of these at home) and olive oil mixed together. For days I’m feeling extra bougie, I make the famous avocado hair mask.
Go and visit a new place
I am a huge fan of checking new places out but I always don’t get the time to. Did a new store or cafe open in your neighborhood, go check it out. Chances are they might be running a discount. It’s always a great idea to use your time efficiently. Invite a friend over and you guys can go together. It’s always so fun with friends.
Learn something new
Learning something new is always important because you don’t know where and when you might need that knowledge. I always try to learn something new that will either benefit me, my blog, or my business. This can be as simple as watching a YouTube video, reading an article, or listening to a podcast. Detox your social media
This is very important for your mental health. Go through your social media especially your Instagram and remove anyone that makes you feel some type of way about yourself. You should only be following people that inspire you, uplift you, and make you want to become a better version of yourself. Any account that is making you feel the opposite, unfollow it!
Journal
I was never a fan of journalling until recently. You need to start journaling. It literally clears your mind and allows you to be able to focus on what matters the most. I currently journal on Notion which has been so amazing.
Cook a meal
When was the last time you had a fresh homemade meal? Go to your local farmers market, grab some fresh ingredients and treat yourself to a great homemade dinner. I have been baking a lot lately and it has been so therapeutic for me. I started with a simple snack like donuts and this week, I want to challenge myself to try making some croissants at home. I’m really looking forward to that.
Order dinner
If you’ve been cooking all the meals, on the other hand, this week, order a takeaway. Are you craving some Chinese rice? Ring them up and place your order. The happiness that comes from eating something you’ve been craving the whole week is amazing. I think I am obsessed with Indian dishes. They are so tasty and spicy just the way I like my meals. If you want to try some Indian dishes, I will recommend the butter chicken and some naan bread or parathas. You will not regret it!
Clean your room/house
Am I the only one that loves cleaning? Glad to see that I’m not the only one. Cleaning my room automatically puts me in a better mood. Declutter your wardrobe, wash your toilet, and vacuum your room. Change your bedsheets and organize your desk. Cleaning my desk has really helped me a lot in staying focused while studying so I do that as often as I can.
Try out a new hobby
It really helps with your creativity. You can only find out what you’re passionate about if you keep trying new things. Learn how to draw, try knitting, or even start a blog. Did you know that I started this blog as a hobby? Now I want it to be my full-time job. It’s still in its early years but watch me transform it into my business in the next few years.
Call your friends/ family
Sometimes all we need to do to feel better is talk to someone we trust. Catching up with your friends will make you feel so much better about yourself. A little laughter or words of encouragement can brighten up your day. My friends and I love to organize virtual movie dates because we’re all in a different part of the world and it has been amazing.
Do nothing
Just stay in bed and do nothing. Relax your body and mind. You have been working all week and you deserve to do nothing today. Just lay back and meditate.
Plan your life, again
I know you’ve probably had the urge before to just plan your entire life out. You can do that again. Planning my life out gives the boost of motivation I am looking for. I write down my goals, my monthly goals, things I want to own, places I want to be and so much more. The perfect planner for this exercise is this life planner by Rumieprints. It comes with all the pages you will ever need to plan and organize your life such as a vision board, monthly goals, yearly goals, important days tracker, habit trackers and so much more.
Plan the following week
Once you’re done taking care of yourself, you don’t want the stress to overcome you again. The best way to stay productive, less stressed is by planning. Plan your entire week out. This will allow you to know everything you need to do each day and stay organized. The life planner by Rumieprints is perfect for everyday planning because the planner comes with 3 different types of daily planners to help you plan your day effectively. If you’re not a fan of daily planning, it has a set of weekly planners which allows you to only plan once a week. Check out the life planner.

I love these ideas! My favorite ways to practice self care on Sundays are to spend time with my family, plan out the week and actually relax! Maybe even a pedicure every now and then!
