Double cleansing is a skincare method that involves using two cleansers: an oil-based one to remove makeup and oil-based impurities, followed by a water-based cleanser to ensure a deep and thorough clean of the skin. It’s commonly used in Korean skincare routines to maintain clear and healthy skin.
In this post, I’m going to be sharing the best Korean cleansing oils that are affordable and do an amazing job of removing makeup and sunscreen. Let’s get into it

How to double cleanse the right way
A lot of people make mistakes when double cleansing and it’s beneficial only if it’s done the right way. Here how:
- Start by selecting two cleansers: an oil-based cleanser, which is your cleansing oil, and a water-based cleanser. The oil-based cleanser is essential for breaking down and removing makeup, sunscreen, and excess sebum, while the water-based cleanser provides a deeper cleanse. Here are my best Korean cleansers for oily skin.
- Begin with dry hands and a dry face. Take a small amount of your cleansing oil and gently massage it into your skin. Pay extra attention to areas where you’ve applied makeup or sunscreen.
- Now, it’s time to emulsify the oil-based cleanser. Add a bit of water to your face and continue massaging the cleanser. You’ll notice that it transforms into a milky texture. This emulsification process helps lift away impurities and makeup residue. Rinse your face thoroughly with lukewarm water, ensuring that all traces of the oil-based cleanser are washed away.
- Next, apply the water-based cleanser to your damp face. Gently massage it in, focusing on all areas of your skin. This second cleanse ensures that your skin is thoroughly cleansed and free from any remaining impurities. Rinse your face again with lukewarm water.
- After cleansing, pat your face dry with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing, as it can irritate the skin. Your skin is prepped and ready for the next steps in your skincare routine, which typically includes toner, serums, and moisturizers.
P..S: You don’t need to double cleanse every day. This method is beneficial at night when you’ve been wearing makeup or sunscreen. In the morning, a single cleanse with your water-based cleanser is generally sufficient to start your day with clean and refreshed skin.
