there are so many things I wish I knew before I started using makeup. I know a lot of us to get excited when we are about to start using makeup.
First, we do our research on the essential makeup products we need and then the brushes to get for their application. The one thing we rarely check or research on is what will happen to us once we start using make-up. How it will change our lives and lifestyle.
these are the 5 things I wish I knew before I started using makeup:
1.You will spend A LOT on makeup products
Table of Contents
If you told me that I will spend over $500 on makeup products one year ago, I would’ve probably declared you as insane. But here I am, spending Nairas (that’s the Nigerian currency) on makeup products.
I think I need to stop going to makeup stores because it’s making me broke(well it has, several damn times). If you are a curious girl like me, you will find yourself buying new makeup products to try out and brands to review. That costs a lot of money.
And if you are a beginner, you will probably spend more because you need to try as many shades as possible before you finally get that perfect shade of foundation, powder, and concealer. But once you find those perfect shades, it will save you a lot of money.
2.You will be addicted
This is for sure! Once you start using makeup, you will find yourself watching a lot of YouTube tutorials, checking out trending products and trying out new looks. This makes me happy. Especially when I try a look from my favorite makeup guru and it looks soo good on me.
3.You might break out
Well, I did! And it was horrible. I had a lot of pimples, acne and dark spots. This was mainly because when I was trying out new makeup products, some of them contained ingredients that I was allergic to, resulting to such mess.
But fortunately, I came across a soap that changed everything. I highly recommend it to people with such skin problems. So if you are not careful enough, you might be a victim as well.
Always read the ingredients at the back and find out those you are allergic to and avoid them. That will help you a lot.
4.You will end up with a lot of makeup you don’t need
And when this happens, try and give them out. Don’t keep them to yourself if you won’t use them. What you don’t need might be something someone can’t leave without.
What I like to do when I have a lot of makeup I don’t need is to trade them with my friends. Once every month, we meet at a place with all the products we don’t need and then we swap them with each other products.
I find this very helpful because I collect all the items I need in exchange for those ones I don’t need which will lead me to save more because I don’t need to get new ones from the store. Score! I will really advise all of you to start doing this because of its fun, helpful and money wise.
If you are a YouTuber, beauty blogger or anything of that kind, you can use them for your giveaways in exchange for subscribers, followers, readers etc… Either way, you both win.
5.You need to practice, practice and practice
As they say, practice makes perfect. You need to practice all the basis one by one. From how to apply foundation, to how to draw your eyebrows and the rest. Every expert was once a beginner. Don’t expect your wings to be sharp enough to kill on your first or second trial.
Watch as many YouTube videos as you can. If you have time and money, enroll in a makeup school. Feel free to always ask for help. You need to serve those looks properly.
Even with all those struggles, that didn’t stop me from doing what I love( that is applying makeup). Makeup is art and you are the artist.
I hope this post will help you prepare for what you will face. what was your first experience with makeup like? what makeup products did you start out with? where did you learn makeup from? is it from a youtube or a professional school? let me know all of that in the comments section below.
Please make sure you share this with your loved ones and on Pinterest.

Which soap did you use to get rid of your acne?

Hey Monica. I used the African black soap. It’s very good for the skin and very very affordable. I plan on doing a post about my favorite black soap brands. Stay tuned
