On August 30th, I turned 18. You can not even imagine how excited I was.
I was finally an adult. So many things are about to change.
I could remember when I was a kid and I will dream of the day I will become an adult. I thought it was all fun because once you’re an adult, nobody can tell you what to do but the truth is that it’s not like that!
Throughout my childhood, I was able to learn so many things from so many people and environments. It has helped me become a better person and changed my way of thinking.
At some point, I didn’t like the fact that I was getting older because I wanted to remain daddy’s little princess but I realized that the earlier I accept the fact and work towards my future, the better it would be for me.
To re-celebrate that day, I will be sharing 18 things I learned in 18 years. Accept this as a party pack from me. Who knows maybe you can relate to some of them?
1. Not everyone is going to like you
Table of Contents
This was such an important lesson I learned since I was in secondary school. There are people who will smile with you every day but deep down disputes you.
It’s better to just be yourself and do things that make you happy because if you try to impress everyone, you will end up sacrificing your happiness because that is not possible.
2. Communication is key
Whether it’s with your family members or your friends, make sure you always tell them how you feel and talk things out when you have a misunderstanding. Don’t just assumes that they know. You have no idea how many relationships are breaking due to lack of communication. Speak out!
3. It’s not being selfish when you put yourself first
Always make yourself a priority. If something you are about to do with others can affect your mental health or happiness, find a way to not do it. You’re not being selfish, you’re just taking care of yourself.
4. Stop worrying about the future and focus on the present
Sometimes, you can find yourself thinking too much about how your future will turn out. If you will ever be successful or not. The truth is that whatever you do now will determine how your life will turn out in the future so instead of worrying and thinking about the future, focus on the present and do things that your future self will thank you.
5. Strangers might support you more than your own people
This is an important lesson that I learned recently. When I started this blog, the few friends I told about it thought it was ridiculous. They didn’t believe the fact that you can actually make money blogging.
Although I haven’t reached that level yet, I really hope that I do it in time so that I can show them that I won. They didn’t mean to hurt you but that was just their opinion about it and I respected but it made me feel bad about my blog.
During the early months of my blog, the support and encouragement I have received from so many strangers and fellow bloggers were amazing and overwhelming.
I had people leaving comments on my posts say it was helpful and also telling me how beautiful my blog looked. I also had technical support from fellow bloggers who helped me with some things I couldn’t do or figure out when I started this blog FOR FREE.
I really appreciate everyone so far that has helped me in any way or have motivated me to continue and then you, that is reading this. You guys are the reason I keep going even when I want to give up. So thank you.
6. Be proud of what you do
Whatever you’re doing, make sure you’re proud of it. Make sure you show the world that you’re passionate about it and trust me when people see that love you have for your thing(could be a business, blog, mini project, etc) they will not talk bad about it and it will even motivate them to purchase from you.
7. it’s okay to dream big
Another important lesson. Don’t let anyone tell you that you cannot achieve certain things simply because they think you’re not capable of doing it. Prove them wrong and make it happen. Double your efforts and work very hard and watch it become a reality.
All these successful people that we know today all started their companies and businesses with a dream. They worked really hard and made it come to life. If they can do it, then you can as well. After all, we are all humans.
8. learn something new
Learning never stops and you shouldn’t stop as well. Make sure you learn one new thing At least every month. Even if you were able to learn how to fix a button on a shirt, you have acquired a new skill!
You have no idea how many things I was able to learn on YouTube. And it’s all for free.
Even when I started this blog, I learned almost everything by myself. I didn’t need to spend a dime. I would stay up all night reading posts on wpbeginner and twinsmommy. I can’t thank them enough. So learn, learn and learn. You will never know when a skill might help you.
9. Stop wasting time doing useless things.
This is something I used to do but I have drastically reduced the time I spend on useless things such as scrolling through social media for hours. Use that time to do some valuable like reading, exercising or even socializing offline.
10. Surround yourself with great people
They say great minds think alike. Make sure your group of friends are people that inspire you and want to see you win. These people will correct you when you’re wrong and will help you during difficult times.
11. Cut off any toxic relationship
Never stay in a toxic relationship thinking they will change or you can change them. Cut the string and let them go.
12. Always save
I know it can be hard sometimes to keep money and not use it but it’s very important to save because of emergency situations. Make sure you put aside some money every month for an emergency. I know it can be tempting to withdraw everything and go and shop but you should resist those temptations and keep the money. It will help you one day.
13. Prayers really change the destiny
Do you pray every day? if you don’t, please try and do that every day. As a Muslim, its compulsory upon us to pray five times daily. If you have any worries and anything you want to achieve, pray about it and see how things will change one after the other right in front of your eyes.
14. Travel as much as you can
love love love traveling because it exposes me to a new environment and new cultures. It’s so amazing and I think everyone should try and be traveling. Trust me, it will change your mindset about certain things in a positive way.
15. Respect other people’s opinions
Just because you both don’t agree on a thing shouldn’t cause a fight between you two. Everyone has his own perspectives about things and just because you’re right doesn’t mean they are wrong. They might have just looked at it from a different angle from yours.
16. never try to fit in
This doesn’t need any explanation. Just don’t do it! Be unique, be different and most importantly, be you.
17. Think twice before making decisions
Always think about things twice before you make a decision especially when you are angry. You might make the wrong decision out of anger and you will, later on, regret it when it’s probably too late.
18. we will all die one day
So make sure you live your life to the fullest and try and leave a positive impact behind. Make sure you leave a legacy behind that generations to come will be inspired by it and your name will still be mentioned in places even after you’re long gone.
Feeling inspired yet? I hope you learned one or two things from this post.
What’s the one major lesson you learned in your life?

Thank you so much, I definitely need this! I just got my blog to the point where I consider it ready for people to see–but I have no idea what to do next! There’s so much to learn about blogging and I appreciate how you’ve broken it down so there’s a roadmap to follow.
