This diy toner is something you must add to your skincare routine.
If there is any part of our skincare routine that is neglected more than the first slice of bread, it’s definitely the toner.
Many people feel like the toner is not very important because once you’ve cleansed your face( here is a post about my favorite soap), that’s enough but it’s actually very important for the following reasons:
1. It helps to maintain the skin ph balance
2. It shrinks pores
3. It unclogs skin pores
4. It helps to get rid of blackheads
5. It removes dirt And
6. It controls excess sebum production
Sometimes, the toners made in factories contain chemicals that a very harsh for the skin and that’s why I will absolutely recommend making yours at home.
The good thing about this diy toner is that the ingredients used in its preparations are things we have in our kitchens and use on a daily basis.
All you need to make your own toner is
•Green tea( yes, I’m not joking)
•Apple cider vinegar And
•Your favorite essential oil.
Here are the reasons why these ingredients make the perfect toner:
Green tea:
Table of Contents
When it comes to skin health, drinking and applying it green tea on skin has been found to
1. delay aging,
2. protect the skin from UV rays,
3. improve skin tone, and
4. reduce acne.
It is loaded with antioxidants which can fight inflammation and bacteria.
Antioxidants present in green tea help prevent free radical damage and encourage healing of cells, which fight signs of premature aging like age spots, wrinkles, and sun damage.
Green tea acts as an astringent which shrink pores and helps to reduce the production of sebum.
It’s antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and astringent properties help to fight both acne and blackheads when applied topically and also help shrink blood vessels around the delicate eye area, alleviating swelling and puffiness.
Apple cider vinegar
It is a natural astringent. It naturally tightens the skin, shrink large pores and reduce inflammation due to acne.
Potassium in apple cider vinegar helps skin to be hydrated and clear from zits.
It unclogs skin pores and exfoliates the dead skin cells and helps to remove dark spots and scars.
It has the ability to balance skin pH and also helps in controlling the overproduction of sebum.
Essential oil:
For essential oil, I love to use tea tree oil for the following reasons:
Its antibacterial and antiviral properties kill bacteria and virus causing acne, blackheads, and whiteheads.
Anti-microbial and antiseptic properties of tea tree oil kill harmful microbes and protect wounds from getting infected.
It has unique disinfecting and soothing properties and, unlike other acne treatments, tea tree oil will not strip your skin of its natural oils and cause further damage.
How to make the toner
1. Pour 3/4 cup of water in a pot and add 2-3 tea bags. Let it boil very well then remove the tea bags and allow the tea to cool down.
2. Measure 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and add to the cooled tea
3. Mix very well and transfer into a spray bottle or a clean jar
4. Add 5 drops of tea tree oil or your favorite essential oil and mix/shake very well
5. Your toner is ready for use.
How to use
Personally, I store mine in a jar so each time I want to use it, I take a cotton pad and dap a little of the toner and apply it all over my face, Avoiding the eye areas. Once it dries completely, I then follow with my favorite moisturizer.
Some prefer to apply it and once it’s has dried up, they wash it up because of the smell of the vinegar.
Others prefer to apply it in the night before sleeping and then wash it up the following morning and moisturize.
I will advise you to try out all the 3 methods and see which one works for you best.
Make sure you use it up within a week and always refrigerate.
