How to Romanticize your life
Table of Contents
When I was 17 years old (currently 21), I was on the verge of becoming depressed. I just got into a college that wasn’t my dream college and was studying a course that wasn’t my dream course. I was struggling to get through each day without breaking down.
On a blessed day, I was scrolling through Instagram when I came across this long quote about life and the one thing I needed to hear was written.
“you’ve got only one life and each day that passes by is slowly chipping away from your one life. So live life to the fullest, enjoy the small things and live each day like it’s the last day you have on earth!”
This quote really got me thinking. I realized that life was passing me by and I wasn’t doing anything to make the most out of it.
Fast forward to 2021, there was a TikTok trend that got so popular about romanticizing life and being the main character.
There is an audio clip that is synonymous with this trend, and it goes a little something like this…
“You have to start romanticizing your life, you have to start thinking of yourself as the main character, ‘cause if you don’t, life will continue to pass you by, and all the little things that make it so beautiful will continue to go unnoticed, so take a second and look around.”
I never thought a TikTok trend could be so profound, but here we are.
In today’s post, I will be sharing with you how to romanticize your life and be the main character of your life.
Without any further delay, let’s get into it.
What does it mean to romanticize?
According to Cambridge dictionary,
Romanticize is to believe something is better than it really is.
Therefore, to romanticize your life is to believe your life is better than it really is. And that is absolutely true.
Your life is way better than you think it is but you’re just yet to realize that. Hopefully, by the end of this post, you will :-))
It all begins with your mindset
Our mindset is literally what makes or breaks us. You have to stop thinking negatively about your life.
Romanticizing your life and treating yourself like the main character is one of the best ways to take care of your mental health. You have to believe that your life is better than it really is.
One thing that I started doing that helped me become the main character was imagining that I was in a reality show and all my life was being filmed. It really boosted my confidence and I started doing more of what I love.
You can romanticize your life without being aesthetically perfect. Romanticize that ugly cup of coffee while studying, romanticize your trip to work or college, romanticize making dinner with whatever you have in the fridge, romanticize your time studying a subject you don’t like by playing some rain sounds in the background.
It’s not about wanting to be her, is about loving who you are and what you do. Once you are happy with what you do, you’ll look as happy as her.
Fall in love with yourself
Nobody is perfect but you’re perfect for yourself. Start loving yourself more and prioritizing yourself. Start working out to keep yourself fit. Start making healthy meals and cutting down on junk foods.
When you love something or someone, you will always take good care of it or want to see them happy right? Do the same thing for yourself.
Prioritize beauty
Buy nice things for yourself, take good care of your body and always try to look good every day. When you dress up every day, you will feel great and it really boosts your confidence.
Prioritize beauty in your surroundings as well. If you love flowers and plants, buy some and place them in your home or room. Seeing them every day will instantly put you in a better mood. Repaint your room, buy new art pieces and rearrange your pieces of furniture.
Have a morning and night routine
As the main character, you need to have a morning and night routine. I love having my morning and night routines because they help you to be more productive and less stressed.
Your morning and night routines should be simple yet so effective. Take things you want to be doing daily and categorize them into morning routine or night routine.
A simple morning routine can be:
- Wake up by 6 am
- Stretch
- Make bed
- Journal
- Workout
- Shower
- Skincare
- Breakfast
- School/work
While a night routine can be:
- Netflix and chill
- Do the dishes
- Shower
- Skincare
- Read
- Finish work
- Sleep by 10pm
As you can see, it doesn’t have to be complicated. Everyone’s morning and night routine is different so create one for yourself that will help you to become who you want to be. Don’t copy others.
Take yourself out on dates
This is something I want to do more this year. Going on solo dates. This is such a great way to have some time to yourself to think, reflect and unwind.
Go to your favorite restaurant, go to the bookstore, do some painting, take random pictures on your way.
Live in your own world
It’s so easy to be blinded by other people’s lifestyles and success so limit what you consume. Block and unfollow anyone that makes you feel like a loser. Follow accounts that will help you and inspire you.
Being the main character is all about putting yourself first. Reset your life, set goals, work towards your goals and keep learning. Every day should be a chance for becoming a better version of yourself.
