Toxic habits to let go
Table of Contents
As we are in a new decade, it’s time for you to re-evaluate your life. Sometimes it’s not the environment that is stopping us from achieving our dreams or the people around us. Sometimes, it’s our habits.
In today’s post, I will be sharing the 10 toxic habits you need to let go of if you want to turn your life around and become a better version of yourself.
1. Procrastination
Let’s be honest here, We all procrastinate. Procrastination is very bad because it stops you from achieving anything thinking you still have time to do it. This is one of the top toxic habits to let go of. If you want to be more productive, you need to eliminate procrastination. Here are a few ways you can achieve that.
-
Set simple achievable goals
Make sure you give yourself realistic goals that you will do each day. Don’t overwork yourself. Break big tasks into smaller ones. That way, it won’t look intimidating.
-
Set a deadline
This trick always works! Challenge yourself that you will achieve certain things before the day ends or on the weekends. Trust me, nobody likes to be a loser, and that way, you will find yourself more determined to get those tasks done.
-
Get rid of distractions.
Keep your phone away while doing your work. Anything that will make you not focus should leave your workspace. When you have nothing to do other than those tasks, you will find yourself doing it in no time.
2. Self-doubt
You have to stop doubting yourself. If you think you can do something then you will surely be able to do it. I think self-doubt has killed a lot of dreams and that’s enough. You should start believing in yourself and watch how you will achieve your dreams in no time. It’s better to know that you’ve tried it than to regret not giving it a shot. Think about it.
3. Trying to please everyone
Honestly, nobody cares about your life. You’re the one in charge of everything that happens in your life. Do as you please. Stop thinking about what people might say before doing something.
It’s ok for you to be selfish at times if it’s in pursuit of your goals and becoming a better person. Do what makes you happy.
Ever since I stopped trying to please everything, I became that girl that has her life together and started romanticizing my life. It was one of the best things I’ve done so far in my life.
4. Comparing yourself to others
This is a very horrible thing to do. I know sometimes you can’t help but compare but you should learn to be contented with what you have.
Every single person you see out there has his/her struggles. Nobody has it easy. Even the successful people you see out there had to go through so much before they got to where they are today.
You should believe in your journey and be happy with what you have. You can always use other people’s success as motivation. Just work harder. If they can do it, then you can surely do it as well.
Remember to not copy them. You both are two different people. Always be unique.
5. Always thinking Negative
Let me tell you a short story. When I was in my first year of college, everything was too much for me to handle. I didn’t have a study timetable, I was missing some of my classes, and my notes were incomplete. All these things made me feel so bad about myself. Something in my mind kept telling me I was going to fail the year. That almost made me depressed.
One blessed day, I decided that I won’t let that happen. I started telling myself that I will pass this year with amazing results and I won’t have any issues. I kept being positive about the whole situation and slowly I found myself getting everything done and in place. And that was how I was able to pass with no failure because I was very positive and had faith in myself. That’s the power of manifestation.
What I am trying to say here is if you remain positive about any situation you find yourself in, you will surely be able to do anything. Being positive brings motivation into your life. Always think the best of every situation you find yourself in.
6. Following the crowd
These days we tend to join the crowd without even realizing it. If you want to see changes in your life, then you need to stand for yourself, even if it means you have to stand alone. If you think something is not right or you don’t like something, then don’t do it just because everyone around you is doing it. Learn to trust your instincts.
7. Trying to be perfect all the time
Let me burst your bubble. Nothing can ever be perfect. I have always been that person that wants to make sure everything I do is perfect. That included my morning routine, my skincare, and even when I added new listings to my Etsy shop. It stopped me from doing so many things and made me feel like I wasn’t good enough.
Later on, I learned that nothing is perfect but it can always be improved. It took me a whole year before I finally decided to publish this blog but guess what, I still work on it every single day.
One thing I learned from this is to
just do it when you feel it’s the right time, you can always come back and make some improvements and changes.
8. Being too independent
Do you feel like you can do everything on your own and hate asking for help? I was once there before. Asking for help doesn’t mean your weak or you’re incapable of doing it on your own. And no, you’re not bothering the person. When I started asking others for help on things I think they’re better than me at, I noticed that a lot of them are more than happy to help. I have passed so many courses simply by asking my study group members for help.
Having a balance is key. Don’t be too dependent or independent.
9. Not forgiving yourself
It’s time to move on from your past. we are humans so we all make mistakes. Stop holding yourself accountable for things you did years back when you were naive or ignorant. Not forgiving yourself will keep you from progressing with your life. The fact that you cringe when you remember it means that you have grown and you now know better. let it go.
10. Not having enough sleep
This last one might come as a shock but getting enough sleep is so underrated. A lot of us say we are night owls and we work better at night and while that might be true, you need to sleep for at least 8 hours daily. This will help you to function properly and be more productive.
Ever since I started sleeping early and waking up very early, especially on days I’m having my monthly reset routine, I noticed that I always wake up with so much energy and am full of motivation.
