If you’re like me, you probably ate rice today. In my country Nigeria, rice is very valuable here.
We eat rice at least twice a week, rice is prepared on special occasions and it is farmed everywhere. That’s how much we love rice. But what if I tell you the rice water you pour out every time could be the solution to your problem?
Rice water has been used for centuries in Asian countries to keep skin young looking and help hair grow healthy and strong.
In Japan, female rice farmers used to bathe in the water used for cleaning rice. In the village of Huangluo in China, the Yao women have extremely long, thick and shiny hair well into their later years, and their secret is said to be washing it with rice water.
Rice water is chock-full of vitamins, minerals and amino acids that are essential for beautiful hair and skin, including ferulic acid, a powerful antioxidant, and allantoin, which contains anti-inflammatory properties.
While I was surfing the internet, as usual, I came across a site called theindianspot.com. This site is filled with natural homemade products and remedies. As someone who loves trying out natural remedies especially if it’s something I can easily make in the kitchen, this site was like heaven to me.
The first article I read there was about this rice water because honestly, I didn’t know rice had other benefits apart from keeping the belly full.
After reading it, I was shocked because the benefits were too good to be true so I decided to try it myself. And I must say, it really worked. Everything they mentioned there was exactly what I started noticing. It was an amazing discovery.

Benefits of rice water

1.soothing skin inflammation to relieve problems like acne

Rice water also helps to heal acne as well as calm the redness of an outbreak. It acts as an astringent on the skin, tightening the pores.

2.softer and more radiant skin

Rice water can be used as an everyday face cleanser. After regular use, your face will become softer and brighter. This is something I personally experienced. After using it for just 3 days, my skin was looking softer and smoother. And it also helped make my t-zone less oily!

3.Treats sun damaged and aging skin.

Rice water can help diminish those dark age spots as well as help minimize free-radical damage from the sun, environment, and aging, thanks to its high level of antioxidants, including vitamin A, vitamin C, flavonoid and phenolic compounds. And, it’s incredibly inexpensive. Many users swear results can be felt and seen after just a single use. It helps smooth skin texture, address hyperpigmentation, firm and tighten skin, reduce pore size and leave a soft, porcelain-like finish behind.

4.Can help you grow your longest hair ever

The Yao women are also famous for their very long hair, that was said to be achieved thanks to rice water.
I have personally tried rice water on my hair and it made it softer and way manageable and quite long.

5.Improves skin texture and shrinks enlarged pores

I’m sure you’re now eager to find out how to prepare this rice water. It’s very simple to make that your 5-year-old brother can help you prepare it.

How to make rice water

You will need:

1/2 cup of organic rice
1 cup of water

Procedure:

Wash the rice properly to remove any dirt and then pour it inside a jar. Add the one cup of water and let it sit for about an hour. Shake the jar till the water turns milky then strain the water and put it in a spray bottle. Your rice water is ready for use. Make sure you store it in the refrigerator after use to avoid it from fermenting any further. Make sure you finish it within 5-7 days so I will advise you to be making it in small portions. The fresher, the better.
